Yoga off the Mat

Integrity is Sexy

Integrity is sexy.

It doesn’t matter what you commit to, but when you do — show up fully!

Rise Retreat - Day 4_089 - Web.jpeg

Know that when you commit to someone or something, you make an empowered decision to devote your energy, time, resources and heart.

It’s not only a practice, but a way of living with a deeper devotion and with Truth.

All day long we are given hundreds of opportunities and circumstances to practice living with integrity.

Some of these are definitely more fun and feel easier to commit to than others, but nonetheless, they all deserve the same quality of our attention.

And when we do show up fully, we are always rewarded because our actions feel more like acts of service, not only to others — but most importantly to ourselves.

We strengthen the emotional/mental muscles that give us the confidence, clarity and trust that we can and DO move in a way which is aligned with our thoughts/words.

In the beginning, living with this sort of integrity (which means living with honesty, accountability and integrated actions) can often feel contractive as extra effort/intention are required, however, with time we strengthen this capacity and it becomes a natural expression that we value within all aspects of our life.

We quickly realise what relationships, projects or circumstances are not being fueled or led with integrity, which allows us to redefine our boundaries and redirect our energy elsewhere.

It’s a way of reclaiming our power through presence!

Because we when show up with full presence (no matter how small or big the act) we walk away from it with a sense of completion and contentment.

We can rest assured that we gave 100% of ourselves — from there we can soften around the tiny details or outcome, and open further to the Grace of the Universe to carry us forwards in the best way possible ⚡️

A taste of Truth

Once you taste Truth, it’s almost impossible to go back ⚡️

Because on the other side of the ignorance and disillusion (no matter how simple or complex) is a deep found clarity and freedom felt within the heart, which brings some sort of resolve and inner contentment.

Lauren Photoshoot Bali_04_Web.jpg

And once you’ve touched it, there’s a subtle but constant yearning to access this state of grounded liberation.

The body remembers this feeling and always wants to move from this place — anything less feels inauthentic and seems superficial.

And eventually you fine tune your awareness to listen closer and perceive the small messages/signs to discern what is true for YOU in every conversation and circumstance.

It’s a practice of becoming clear on who you are, what you value and how to create heathy boundaries to protect that — its an art to skillfully contain, direct and channel your Prana (energy) towards the right people, projects and places.

But every right action (no matter how small or large) is a step forwards.

And the more right action you take, the easier it becomes to flow from this place.

The small steps create momentum that pulse into fulfillment of the larger intentions, aligning your day to day actions to support your life’s desires, dreams and greater purpose.

To live with radical Truth is to clear the path for yourself and those around you...to rise into who you are truly meant to be and give permission for others to do the same!

It’s your individual birth right, duty and highest form of liberation.

So the reminder and encouragement is to continue serving your heart with honest daily ‘check ins’ through committed practices, trusting that what serves you moment to moment will ALWAYS serve the collective heart of the world, one honest thought, conversation and action at a time 🕊

Life as Celebration

One of the most beautiful teachings within the Tantric texts is the reminder to engage fully with the world around us.

Inna Shnayder @Inna.Shnayder-151.jpg

It’s easy to become stagnant in our practices/routines and remain within our comforts.

And it’s even easier to feel overwhelmed with daily responsibilities/roles in our fast paces lives, forgetting the nature of our essence.

Both leave us feeling discounted, static and lacking vitality.

Tantra teaches us boundaries to expand and open ourselves to connect in new ways while remaining true to our needs/values.

It acknowledges that every moment is an opportunity to not only live consciously, but to ENJOY living consciously.

We are meant to feel radiate and alive - our faces want to smile, our legs want to dance and our hearts want to beat fast with passion and excitement.

To celebrate is to live in this human embodiment!

And we don’t need permission or to be on holiday to have fun, immerse in pleasure or see beauty.

It’s our birthright to experience fun, pleasure and beauty as often as possible...and our practice is to be non-attached to it...this is how life can become a celebration...even amidst challenges or pain.

Most of the time it’s our human conditioning that gets in the way and blocks us from engaging fully with ourself and the world around us. So relax, shake it up, laugh it off and let yourself go wild.

Let yourself celebrate the small things...don’t wait for a special occasion to do what brings you joy and happiness. Now is the time to rejoice!

Om Jai Swaha!

Happiness, an inside job

Happiness is an inside job!

There is a difference between transitory (temporary) happiness and genuine (sustained) happiness.

Lauren Photoshoot Bali_34_Web.jpg

Temporary happiness satisfies our cravings momentarily and often leave us desiring more, while genuine happiness fuels our Soul and leave us feeling rejuvenated, more at peace and tapped into sensations that go beyond the physical experience.

And the truth is, we all have access to an infinite source of sustained happiness — but most of the time we search for it in the wrong places, seeking external items, relationships or circumstances as validation of our worthiness and joy.

We place unrealistic expectations on them, and in turn feel lost and empty when they are no longer in our lives — we create our own suffering based on attachments and addictions to sources that we know are not serving our highest Self.

In a world of constant change and impermanence, our inner happiness is the most important aspect to cultivate if we want to live this life fully — receiving and sharing the gifts of this human embodiment!

It’s the only thing we can rely to be permanent.

Because when we we feel supported, seen and heard (loved) from within, every other form and expression of love that comes our way is an added bonus. We can then offer that love back out into the world without becoming depleted or dependent.

This type of fulfillment must go beyond the body and mind — it has to awaken the Spirit, tapping into the hearts innate wisdom, softening us into pure presence.

It’s a constant practice of effort and intention, a willingness to consistently show up and a sustained desire for peace.

Our Spiritual practices are the pre-requisite — they are like a daily dose of medicine for the Soul that allow us to tap into a place of connection and gratitude, so we can walk through the world with more positivity, ease and celebration.

They bring us into an unchanging oasis within the heart, the space that is overflowing with peace and presence, fulfilling us deeply from the inside out.

And the best part is that these practices are accessible and available for all!

It only takes commitment to living in alignment with your highest Self — a readiness to deepen your path and enthusiasm to cultivate more love.

Elemental Embodiment

Untitled-design-15.jpg

One translation of Ayurveda is 'knowledge of life’ which so simply and beautifully encompasses this ancient and vast system of holistic healing - one that encourages us to live skillfully, with greater vitality to find freedom in the body, mind and heart.

Known as the 'sister science' to yoga, Ayurveda shares similar principals and philosophies. It offers a clear and accessible 'map' rich with tools (wisdom, practices, rituals) to guide you into greater balance depending on your unique constitution.

Ayurveda and Yoga teach us that our inner world is a reflection of our outer world.

And our own health is crucial to the well-being of the entire eco-system.

They are platforms for us to explore the Self through practices of self-care that lead us to live in greater alignment with our true essence.

As a yoga practitioner, I have experienced huge shifts in my health and well-being from learning the principals within Ayurveda. My personal practice has enhanced and expanded far beyond my mat, and showed me how to integrate this wisdom in very practical ways.

As these principals have become an important part of my own journey, I am deeply passionate about sharing them with others to provide a pathway for greater transformation!

I am thrilled to offer my first online course 'Elemental Embodiment' which includes five accessible yoga practices and a supportive e-guide focused on the five elements.

My aim is to provide a foundation to understand the unique qualities and expressions of each element, and to learn simple ways to maintain greater balance through aligned yoga practices and lifestyle routines.

I'm honored to share the teachings with deep reverence and authenticity, and it's my greatest hope is that this course sparks a seed of desire for further knowledge within this beautiful (vast!) body of wisdom.

The Metamorphis of Being

The butterfly begins as a humble earthbound caterpillar, moving slow and steady. It eventually gains enough nutrients by eating surrounding leaves and turns into a chrysalis, protected inside a cocoon of silk. This stage can last weeks, months or even longer, depending on the species. And when the new cells are developed, it slowly unveils into a brand new version of itself: a magnificent winged butterfly, gifted with the ability to fly freely through the vast sky.

Lauren Photoshoot Bali_54_Web.jpg

Intricate and exquisite in it's being, delicate and full of grace, yet strong enough to flow with the currents of the wind, trusting in it's new form.

The archetype of the butterfly has always been one of transformation and courage.

This small creature has the power to inspire and remind us of nature's perfect order of intelligence, inviting us to further experience this metamorphis, as we transition through various life cycles and ways of expression within the world, based on our Souls unique blueprint.

Just as the plant and animal Spirit around us, we humans ebb and flow to the Divine beat of the Universe, all within perfect timing. We can't skip a phase nor can we rush the process. The step by step Vinyasa of our growth is governed by a larger force, guiding us into greater harmony.

Our practice is to be present with this fluid reality of life...open to the power of change and teachings within each phase.

As we accept this intrinsic cycle of contraction and death, regeneration and renewal, expansion and rebirth within our bodies and minds, we are able to extract and integrate the nectar of wisdom into the heart, our unchanging essence.

With this understanding, we can move from the victim to the hero, and release old patterns which react from fear and instead become the one who responds from truth. As we attune to this, we soften into compassion and melt into deeper understanding and gratitude for the totality of this journey...both the moments of pure ecstatic passion and raw beauty, and moments of discomfort, confusion and rage. We know that nothing will ever remain static.

Just as the caterpillar inevitably shapeshifts into the butterfly, us humans, are encoded to evolve. Our innate goodness and potential to transform is inherent to the natural laws of the Universe.

When we know this to be true for ourselves, we see and believe in it for those around us.

May this be a remembrance...

That transformation isn't easy, but in perfect timing, bathed in our efforts (presence and intention) we will be gifted with a new set of wings that will guide us to fly.

To honor whatever cycle we are in and trust in order of intelligence, a rhythm that is perfect in its ability to unfold with the medicine we are ready to receive.

That when we emerge from the depths of our cocoon, we have not yet taken flight in our new form, yet we must open our wings with confidence and courage...and embrace when we make mistakes along the way.

That one of our greatest gifts we can give to another human is to see the majesty of their beauty and believe in their ability to transform.

Love Heals All

Inna Shnayder @Inna.Shnayder-79.jpg

We are always love.

We are not broken nor do we need to heal.

We have all the information and teachings we will ever need within us.

Our soul is as vast as the oceans, and vibrates to the beat of the Cosmos. It shines as bright as the sun and yearns to dance freely with the winds.

And our only job is to listen to the wisdom of our bodies and hearts, so the mind can quiet.
We must learn to come back to who we truly are meant to be...to remember and accept ourselves wholeheartedly.

Because we are single threads of a larger colorful tapestry of life - we are all connected and when one us begins to honor and love who we are, we impact and inspire every other person to do the same.

When we own who we are and stand our voice, we shift the paradigm of the world.
Imagine the power and possibility if 7.2 billion people woke up tomorrow and shifted their vibration?

What if we all tapped into a place of trust through our breath and simple gratitude?

What if we believed in our inner state of abundance and worthiness?

What if we all spoke truthfully with compassion and followed what brings us joy?

We would change our energy and in turn change our entire experience of how we move in the world. We would all be living our dream realities and lift one another up. We would collectively rise towards new ways of being and inspire change for generations to come.

Sacred Activism: A prayer for the New Paradigm

We are learning to live for what really matters most to us in a time of sacred activism as we awaken into our power, and consciously listen to and respond from our hearts.

Inna Shnayder @Inna.Shnayder-327.jpg

We are remembering our intrinsic intelligence and the strength we hold as a collective.

We are inspired to take responsibility for our actions and aim to walk lightly on this Earth.

Revolutionizing the way we live and love.

To live with this awareness takes a deep desire and commitment to our personal practices of growth...a willingness to stand tall even amidst the discomfort...to stay connected to our truth and the higher vision during hard conversations and moments of transition.

Effort. Steadiness. Integrity. Clarity. Patience.

These virtues are the backbone that enable us to express a more conscious way of being.

And the Soul of our work is the dedication to show up and be seen, to share our unique story and follow the path that most lights us up.

To stay within the work and put ourselves out there, even when it’s scary. To be brave enough to start fresh when we mess up, and to forgive the old version of ourselves. To see the Divine in others (especially those who challenge us) and allow that unbound presence of love to be the foundation of how we communicate and interact.

And the more we show up, the easier it becomes.

We learn that we can craft our power from old stories, wounds and perceived failures. We reiterate to ourselves that we can rise above fears and limited beliefs. We affirm to the Universe that we choose intimacy and connection with ourselves and those around us.

And when we make this choice, over and over again, we inspire those around us to do the same...and slowly the paradigm shape-shifts from our energy, words and actions, and the Cosmos reflect the very light of our own essence.

Snake Medicine: Shedding our Skins

Lauren Photoshoot Bali_48_Print.jpg

Just as the Serpent sheds its skin, we too, have the capacity to shed old patterns and ways of being so we can step more fully into our power and purpose. Our yoga practice is one of many gateways into this process of purification. Physically, when we move our bodies into new shapes and forms, we stir up and awaken neuromuscular patterning to create new pathways between the body and mind. When we add breath and attention to this experience, we have the power to clear stagnant energy, allowing for more clarity and creativity to surface.

Life is always asking us to consciously release to make space for the new.

This process of purification is often uncomfortable as it asks us to shake things up and move into unfamiliar territory...often inviting us to let go of deeply rooted ancestral patterns and conditioning, relationships or projects that no longer align and nourish us.

During this phase, we can look to the archetypes that embody these same cycles of transformation as affirmation. The snake and the fall season are just a few examples within our natural world for us to invoke as guides.

A reminder from the snake comes in the lesson of our ability to transform with perfect timing. The snake is highly intuitive and senses exactly when, how and what layers to shed. It reminds us to trust in the process of letting go and stay connected to the higher vision as our new skin (Self) is on the rise. Just as the snake, we always re-emerge on the other side of this process with a sense of renewal and wholeness.

May your practices bring a deeper awareness of the skins that are ready to be shed in order to call in the next phase of your evolution!

Sensation as the Spiritual Gateway

Lauren Photoshoot Bali_24_Web.jpg

I’ve been in conversation with friends around the subject of sensitivity & spirituality.
Talk surrounding the intensity of the times.

There is so much contraction within political realms, mass corruption & violence...and at the same time magical movements of revolutionaries & healers standing up for the widespread injustice, inspiring and initiating new paradigms of living.

It’s a time of contrast - immense suffering & incredible liberation.

Our spiritual practices aim to bring more ease and lightness, but they require us to step up and do the work through the shadow.

Everything once covered up, rises to the surface. Slowly the veils of disillusion are stripped away.

The truth of reality bares itself and we’re presented with the choice to rewrite our story & realign.

But we can’t SEE unless we allow ourselves to FEEL.
Staying present to the sensation of each felt experience is the gateway to mini awakenings upon reflection.

The alchemy occurs when we consciously channel the information presented & move in the way that is most healing for ourselves and those around us.
Discernment & clear boundaries...receptivity & unconditional compassion are needed more than ever.
We must stay rooted in our values & remain open to the perspective and choice of another, without judgement.
Landing back into life in North America has brought much to the surface...a reminder that no matter how sweet or stormy the feelings/conversations are, there are no rights/wrongs. The highest practice is to stay awake to the sensations, to act from a place of truth and lean into the ride.
Sensitivity is not only a practice, but a gift of our human experience - our souls are strong enough to handle the extremes and courageous enough to move with skill and grace.
Yes, we are capable of change and are here in this exact moment for a reason. Throughout the swirl is a cleansing, which always leads to a rising. Collectively, we are in it, I see it and I feel it wholeheartedly.

Step into the fire of the Heart

It's far better to live your own path imperfectly, than to live another’s perfectly.

― The Bhagavad Gita

DSC07808.JPG

I believe we are all seeking more liberation.

We want to be free from oppressive energies and have a healthy sense of autonomy to express our individual nature with authenticity.

We want to live a creative existence, connected to our passions to bring more joy and purpose.

And at the core of our being, we want to live a simple existence, aligned with our own bodies rhythms and nature's cycles.

These are some of the underlying Universal currents that pulse life with reason, meaning and well-being.

They're a recipe that lead us to living a more fulfilled existence and awaken us to our capacity to live in harmony. Life is not meant to be an overwhelming game of survival with constant stress. At our essence, we are illuminated beings, born to thrive in every way!

Living from this place of harmony requires a deep commitment to our personal growth. We must stay open and willing, and hold the ability to self-reflect. We have to believe in ourselves and the magic of the Universe, to trust in the unconditional support that is always abundant within and around us. And with commitment and consistency, we are guided forwards one step at a time, and can expand into places we didn't even know were possible.

The process of personal growth is aimed at leading us to who we truly are, beyond any fears, doubt or limitations.

Our true nature is a loving, soulful being that has passions, pleasures and purpose. And our highest Self yearns to share our creative gifts with others to positively impact the world.

The more we connect to these aspects, the more we live in alignment with ourself and unique calling, our Dharma. When we move closer to this purpose, we become lit up - revitalized and radiant from an inner fire that burns bright within our Spirit.

Life becomes a sacred existence rich with opportunities for greater freedom...

This freedom is felt from a deep connection to Self and the ability to make empowered choices. Our capacity to treat our physical, mental and emotional bodies with respect and love, directly impacts how we move in the world and our experience of it.

I didn't know it, but when I first began yoga I was seeking greater freedom...

At the time, I had little understanding of my eco-system as a whole - I felt disconnected to my true desires, myself as a woman, and to my creative purpose. I felt trapped and lost living in a system I didn't feel supported by, and for a long time, reacted by defying everyone and everything that tried to put boundaries on me. I identified as a rebel wild child and denied my own inner voice, which so desperately wanted to be seen and heard. My teenage years were filled with destructive behaviors and addictions.

And as unhealthy as this time period may have felt, it was exactly what I needed to awaken...

In life, we will always experience situations that don't serve our highest Self (and will throw us out of alignment) in order to learn the best way forwards for the future. These parts of our journey are to be embraced and acknowledged as normal and very necessary.

Often the moments we feel trapped, lost, and confused express themselves in uncomfortable ways to show us signs that we are not living in harmony with our heart. These moments have potential to be a catalyst for growth and transformation, if we listen.

When we do, we usually enter a phase of deep purification, which can literally feel as everything we once thought to be true is no longer valid. This serves as a clearing to make space for new information, ideas and actions to arise.

At 19, I finally listened to the signs of destruction and stepped on my yoga mat for the first time. I was opened to a practice which led me to more clarity and spaciousness. From this place I could better receive the wisdom my Soul embodied and hear the clarity of my inner voice who sang with desires to live an existence with greater freedom in my body, mind and heart.

The pivotal shift came after I graduated University when I chose to learn more about yoga and explore the world. I wanted time to discover my own gifts, and the thought of job searching brought a heaviness to my heart. Instead, I bought a one way ticket to India to volunteer at a yoga retreat. I listened to what I felt would ignite my Spirit and as the Universe always provides, I was supported to expand into parts of myself I didn't know existed. My own values, dreams and health began to fall into greater balance and led me to follow a path of lifelong study, practice and teaching.

But first, I had to listen within and take a leap of faith to follow an inner calling that burned bright...

And to be honest it was the first time I truly felt free.

Ironically, I had only a few hundred dollars in my bank account, was living in a plywood hut shared with six Nepali boys and had a small backpack with some belongings. I had no idea what would come of the experience, but I felt immense freedom from making an empowered choice, guided by my own inner voice which sparked a new wave of enthusiasm, passion, vitality, creativity and love.

Fast forward years later, and my life looks slightly different from the outside in regards to my intentions, values and vision - however the practice remains the same.

Each day I choose to see the opportunities of how I can live more freely, and ask myself the following questions:

How can I nourish my body and mind to stay connected to its wisdom?

What empowered choices can I make to live in more alignment with my highest Self?

How can I be of service to those around me and the Earth?

Often the answers that arise are simple. They come as little reminders to follow my path, one day at a time...

My hope is that we all see the vast (and simple!) support systems available to live in greater connection with our own hearts.

Every moment is an invitation to receive our inner guidance, directing us to fearlessly take the next leap of faith and rise into who we are meant to be. There is never a better time than now!

May we continue to commit to our paths and aim for our highest visions, awakening the inner fire of the heart!
